Where does your moral compass point?

Everyone has a moral compass, but not everyone chooses to follow it.  Some people, and some companies, have created justifications and excuses as to why they are being morally ambiguous.  “I have to get paid for what I do” or “It’s the way business is done now.”  There are times where you could increase your benefit (financial, personal, ego, status), and probably no one would know the difference, but there’s a chance that these actions could be noticed.

With the amount of online information available on you, or your company, there isn’t much latitude between moral and immoral.  The chances that your decision will be evaluated, or investigated, increases with everyday you have an online presence

This doesn’t mean that you can’t make mistakes.  Everyone makes mistakes, and there is nothing wrong with making mistakes.  Repeating your mistakes is a different blog post entirely.

To determine if you are making the right ethical choice, consider your actions and ask yourself:

–         Will this decision benefit me or my company only?

–         Am I putting my needs in front of my clients?

–         Will this hurt my customer in any way financially or emotionally, or physically?

If you answer “yes” to any of these, you might want to reconsider your motivation, or if the company you’ve chosen to be with is the right fit for you.
