ProTip Thursday – Staying Social

Matthew Inman, the creative genius behind The Oatmeal, shared this insight a while back:

While this is a bit of an exaggeration, for many freelancers personal hygiene and social interaction is limited. Chatting on Facebook, tweeting, and commenting on Reddit don’t count.

Should you choose to become a fulltime freelancer, make sure you take time to get out from behind your desk and enjoy the real world. Go to meetups, visit with friends, shower. Definitely shower.

Not only will this help you enjoy your time when you’re working, but it’s a great way to network and make the connections required to grow your business. It’s too easy to get sucked into your work. Be proactive so you don’t burn yourself out.
